Ganges River Dolphin

The Blind Creature of the Ganges River

Many people think that Ganges river dolphins are blind, and even have the nickname of "the blind dolphin". Surprisingly, they do have eyes, but they lack the lense. This causes them to have poor vision and they can only detect whether or not there is light. Luckily for them, they have evolved to have a very developed sonar system that helps them to perceive objects in their polluted water. This helps them prey much more efficently in their environment. They use pulse sounds and click noises to navigate (Swinton & Gomez, 2009).File:Platanista gangetica skull cast.jpg
