  • The average adult morality rate varies between 8-16 percent.  However, polar bears   that live in the wild can live up to 30 years of age (Nowak, 1093).
  • The skin underneath the polar bear's heavy coat is black.  This is to help absorb heat and aid in body temperature regulation.
  • Polar bears are able to fast for several months at a time!!  This is an incredibly neat characteristic because they are able to fast during pregnancy; a time when nutrients are most needed.
  • There are an estimated 28,000 polar bears world wide (U.S. Fish and Wildlife, 1-2)!!
