The average adult
morality rate varies between 8-16 percent. However, polar
bears that live in the wild can live up to 30 years of
age (Nowak, 1093).
The skin
underneath the polar bear's heavy coat is black. This is to
help absorb heat and aid in body temperature regulation.
Polar bears are able
to fast for several months at a time!! This is an incredibly
neat characteristic because they are able to fast during pregnancy;
a time when nutrients are most needed.
There are an
estimated 28,000 polar bears world wide (U.S. Fish and Wildlife,
1-2)!!
