Aloe vera and many other aloes are used for medicinal purposes and there for their leaves that contain the "healing" gel are harvested, which is a great cost to the plant.  It needs those leaves that contain the chloroplasts to survive.

The Aloe vera gel interacts with our body and especially with our immune system when it is applied.

Sunbirds and other pollinators also interact with Aloe vera.  If A. vera did not have pollinators it would be quite difficult for it to grow and thrive.

Often a younger Aloe vera plant will start to grow near something to shade it, a rock or other plants.  If it grows near a plant then it would be in competition with the other plant for water and once the Aloe gets older, sunlight.
