Geography & Habitat
Geography
The Norway lemming is
found in Norway and parts of Sweden, Finland and Russia.
Some lemmings are even found on islands off the coast of
these countries. Another organism that lives in this area is the
polar bear.
Populations of the Norway lemming endure
dramatic population changes.
Usually, the population thrives every 20-30 years.
This change is due to the natural fluctuation of
population size in comparison to the carrying capacity of the
environment.
Habitat
The Norway lemming makes its home in shrublands, grasslands, and wetlands. Their diverse habitat is due to migration. In the summer, the lemmings prefer a moist environment, but in the winter when the water freezes, they must migrate to a dryer area. |
