Welcome!
"If you feel the urge, don't be afraid to go on a wild goose
chase. What do you think wild geese are for anyway?" - Will
Rogers
Interested in learning about a noisy animal in your
neighborhood? Here is the place. Imagine yourself sitting on your porch, loving life and
relaxing. All of a sudden, you look up and see a flock of geese
flying in a V formation. Or, picture yourself playing golf and
being stopped by a flock grazing on the green next to the hole.
These beautiful yet sometimes annoying geese are
very common in Northern America and Canada, and this is partly
where their species name, Branta canadensis,
came into effect. In Latin, Branta, the genus, means
largely black plumage. The specific epithet, canadensis,
means Canada. Branta canadensis is also more
commonly known as the Canadian goose. This is because the
Canadian goose spends its summers in Northern America and Canada
and is recognized by its black or dark grey feathers.
