Averrhoa carambola

Averrhoa carambola
the STAR amongst FRUIT

The word carambola is derived from the Sanskrit word karmaranga meaning "food appetizer". Star fruit was called carambola in the Malayalam language, and when the Portuguese took it to Africa and South America they kept the original name.

When Averrhoa carambola reached Europe in the 18th century, it was considered a fashionable fruit due to its star shape, and was only served in exclusive restaurants.
