This website is dedicated to the land snail Vertigo modesta.  Vertigo modesta, is a small snail whose length ranges from 2.2-2.7mm.  The shell has about 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 whorls with prominent growth lines.  The shell coloring can range from a dark olive-brown to a chestnut brown color.  The aperture, or the opening of the shell, possesses short teeth called lamellae, four of which are arranged in a cross-like pattern (Burch, 1962).
