Physella heterostropha Overview

Physella heterostropha (Say, 1817) are aquatic pulmonate snails with a golden pewter colored shell. Physella heterostropha are commonly found throughout North American aquatic environments. The common name for this snail is the Pewter Physa and it also is synonymous with P. integra, P. acuta and P. virgata.   The taxonomics of the Physidae are a topic of debate as they have different phenotypes that are a direct response to their environment (Thorp 2011).
