Heliothrips Haemorrhoidalis (greenhouse thrips)
The greenhouse thrip is a often unnoticed until it starts to feast on the plants that are growing in your greenhouse or on your farm. These small dark brown or black insects can be a big problem for plant growers and farmers. Greenhouse thrips are usually about 1-2 mm in length and live for about 9 weeks. They have a ridged body with a netlike pattern of wrinkles. In addition these insects are equipped with antennae broken, into eight segments, 2 pairs of fringed wings and have a chitinous layer around their body. Thrips can be found in green houses throughout the year and may be found outdoors on flowers or other plants during the summer months. To consume these plants Greenhouse thrips have special mouth parts to help them in consuming their food.
