Reproduction
Barbourofelis fricki reproduced similarly to mammals. The
male sperm and female egg would fertilize to create a zygote.
The zygote divides. Deuterostomes divide using radial cleavage
which makes it possible for them to have twins. As the group of
cells divides, it does not increase in size. Eventually the
cells move to the outside forming a blastula. The blastula
cleaves in forming a gastrula. The gastrula in deuterostomes
forms the anus first. Late in this stage there are three tissues
making the organism triploblastic with an inside endodermal
layer, middle mesodermal layer, and an outside ectodermal layer.
Protein concentration gradients are set up to help the cell
undergo cephalization. The cells will undergo determination, to
determine the cell fate, and differentiation, the specialization
of the cells. This is again possible because of proteins that
turn on or off certain genes, also called gene expression.
