Habitat
Eurycea lucifuga is found in the twilight zones of caves in northwestern Georgia, parts of Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio, West Virginia, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. This species prefers lower temperatures than P. glutinosus and other close relatives. In lab experiments this species relied more on visual cues than on olfactory cues. Because they are amphibians, they need a damp environment to live in, making caves the perfect place. To see a detailed map of its distribution, see the image below.
