Facts

1. Because of it's flower-like blue spots, B. lunatus is sometimes referred to as the Flower Flounder.

2. Both eyes of B. lunatus move independently from one another. One of these eyes focuses on the color and pattern of the ocean floor so it is able to camouflage to match the bottom substrate.

3. B. lunatus is one of very few organisms recorded to have the ability to ingest the sharpnose pufferfish with no side effects from the dangerous toxins.

4. The larvae of B. lunatus have been found less frequently off American coasts compared to other dwelling species.
