My name is Rya Haag and I am a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and I am currently in an Organismal Biology class. I am currently majoring in Biology with a potential Cellular and Molecular concentration. Additionally I am still deciding on minoring in either Sociology or Music. In my free time I enjoy running, lifting weights, solving sudoku puzzles, playing soccer and reading books. I also love traveling around the United States and would like to travel to a Central American country sometime. One of my dreams since I was a child was to become a doctor of some sort. That said, I also have an idea about what I would like to do in my future and that is either go into Nursing or become a Physicians Assistant.

Throughout my middle and high school years, I was highly involved in music and sports. As I had noted in my free time, I still like to play soccer and listen to music, but I also like to play music in my free time. I used to take Violin and piano lessons which I miss very much. In high school, I also participated in Women’s soccer for four years, last year making it to state for the second time this past year. Apart from my high school career, I am now working with the challenge of balancing a job with my college studies.

I grew up in the West Madison area near Verona with a lot of extended family about 45 minutes west of Madison. My household is always full of chatter and little jokes. I am also very close to one of my aunts who has helped me build confidence and encouraged to follow my dreams. We selected the Banded Net-Winged beetle, Calopteron reticulatum, not only because of the beautiful banded pattern it has on its wings, but also because of the the beetle chemically defends itself from predators.
My contributions to this webpage were
Habitat/Geography and Life History/Reproduction.

Timothy Schwanbeck
My name is Tim Schwanbeck, and I am currently a freshman at UW- La Crosse in the pre-veterinary program. My goal for the future is to have a career as a small animal veterinarian-- eventually specializing as a surgical veterinarian. I have been interested in animals for a long time because I grew up with pets at home and at my grandparent’s farm.

I grew up in Prior Lake, MN which is about half hour south of  St. Paul. In my free time I enjoy anything that can be done outdoors. I have played sports growing up such as soccer, wrestling, basketball and lacrosse. I continue to play lacrosse here on La Crosse’s Men’s team. I always thought it would be cool to be on a lacrosse team from La Crosse, and now I am.

Growing up, I always saw beetles with an orange stripe outside my back door, and I have been curious to find out exactly what they were. Calopteron reticulatum is not the same beetle, but looks somewhat similar to the beetles by my house. I am hoping that learning about C. reticulatum will enlighten some of the questions I have had about the beetles around my house specifically their
Form and Function and Interactions.

We hope that you enter and leave our website with more knowledge and curiosity about the Banded Net-Winged beetle.
