What do these scientific words even mean? Let us help define them for you!
Chromosomes- threadlike structure of proteins and nucleic acids in the nucleus of a cell that carry genetic information to and from genes
Embryonated- the state of being undeveloped
Endosymbiotic- when one symbiont lives within the body of another one
Eukaryotic- an organism consisting of a cell that has genetic makeup of DNA; A single-celled or multicellular organism whose cells contain a distinct membrane-bound nucleus.
Heterotrophic- an organism which derives its nutrients from complex organic substances
Lymphadenopathy- a disease causing infection to the lymph nodes
Microfilarias- the embryonic larva or a nematode parasite which usually can cause heartworms in dogs or elephantiasis in humans
Parasite- an organism that lives in or on another organism, which is usually its host
Prokaryotic- an organism consisting of a single cell that doesn’t contain a nucleus or specialized organelles
Sister taxa- the system of classifying organisms
Subcutaneous- lying or applied under the skin
Wolbachia- a genus of bacteria that infects
arthropod species
