 - The American Toad has 2 subspecies recognized: the Eastern American toad (Bufo americanus americanus) and the Dwarf American Toad (Bufo americanus charlesmithi).

 - Herpetology is the study of amphibians.

 - Domesticated toads can live up to 30 years. 

 - Contrary to popular belief, you will not get warts if you touch a toad.

 - Because the bufotoxin contains many components, it is being studied for uses in cardiovascular drugs, painkillers and organ glues.

 - It is believed that early colonists used the bufotoxins secreted from the glands on the ends of their weapons for hunting.
