Dustin Hetke
I am the author of this web site, which was created as a project for the Organismal Biology course I am currently taking at UW-La Crosse in La Crosse, WI. To view the web sites created on other organisms by my classmates, check out www.multipleorganisms.net. If you would like to contact me to share some comments or responses to the content found on this web site, or just talk bassin', you can reach me by email at hetke.dust@uwlax.edu or dusty_hetke1175@hotmail.com. You can also find me on Facebook.
I graduated from Chetek High School in Chetek, Wisconsin, in 2007. I received an A.A.S. degree from UW-Barron County in Rice Lake, WI, in May 2009. I am currently continuing my undergraduate studies at UW-La Crosse, where I have declared myself a biology major (biomedical concentration) and chemistry minor. While my future career goals lie within the realm of healthcare, it may be obvious to you that my true passions are probably swimming underwater. Since early childhood, I have been strongly interested in fish, particularly those that are predatory and occupy the tops of food chains. Aside from smallmouth and largemouth bass, my interests lie primarily in sharks, most notably the great white. My interest in and growing understanding of predatory fish is probably what draws me most to fishing, which I enjoy doing almost any chance I get. There is something very rewarding about catching an animal that reigns at the top of its underwater world. In choosing an organism on which to build a web site, the smallmouth bass was an easy choice. Prior to performing research, I had much more knowledge about largemouth bass. Because a largemouth bass web site had already been constructed for this class in a previous year, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to learn more about the closely-related smallmouth.
As you may infer from the photograph below, the seed that has sprouted my love for fishing was planted some years ago, and has since begun to bear fruit:
From left to right: my younger brother Kyle, my dad Dan, myself holding one of my very first catches, and my older brother Shayne. My wonderful mom, Sue, was the photographer.
If you would like permission to use any of the photographs (of which I am the source) that I've included on this web site, please send me an email and let me know. I don't suspect having any problem with it, although I would like to be cited and have the pictures hyperlinked back to this web site.
Although it may not seem like it, I enjoy other aspects of life outside of studying, completing homework, and fishing. Most of my hobbies and interests correlate with my country-oriented lifestyle. I've always had a passion for football, and have been a die-hard Packer fan since Brett Favre first became the Packers quarterback on my 4th birthday (September 20, 1992). Because he is such a huge reason why I even am a Packer fan, I remain a Brett Favre fan despite his decision to play for the worst NFL franchise of all-time (the Vikings). I also enjoy hunting whitetail deer, playing guitar, writing and listening to music, four-wheeling, working cattle, swimming, playing volleyball, playing ping-pong, watching movies, and playing video games.
Switching gears, you may wonder where I stand concerning various theories that explain how different species of organisms come to exist.
Because so much of the information found on this web site is based upon evolutionary concepts, I find it appropriate to explain my stance on this theory that explains the mechanisms by which new species arise, and whether or not acknowledging this theory is compatible with my own belief that God created the world and everything in it. If you would like, click on the following link to read about where I stand and gain some information that might help you reshape your own beliefs, upon considering these concepts from a more well-informed angle.
This is a link to a book that you may find very interesting, as I know I do:
