    Gavia immer is a beautiful and magnificent bird!  They have many unique characteristics that differentiate them from other water birds. Throughout this site the classification, habitat, adaptation, nutrition, reproduction, and species interactions of the common loon will be discussed.
The loon is one of the first classified species of birds. There is only one family that contains five different species. Our main focus will be Gavia immer, or the common loon.
