So what is it...?

This is a colony of Ecteinascidia turbinata commonly known as the mangrove tunicate. As for what it is, it is actually an animal. This sessile creatures belongs to the Chordates which is the same phylum as humans.

This website is dedicated the the mangrove tunicate. Some of you might be wondering what a tunicate is. It is also known as a sea squirt. It is a suspension feeder, feeding on mostly plankton. The tunicate takes in water from one siphon and expels it from the other. Did I mention that it produces a chemical called Ecteinascidin-743 that has been proven to fight several forms of cancer.

This website was created for BIO203, my organismal biology class at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. You can look at websites on other organisms made by my class mates. Check out Multiple Organisms!

To learn more let's look at the mangrove tunicate's classification. To contanct me visit my contact page.
