Classification

The two phylogenetic trees above and below were created by me to show the Echinacea purpurea’s closest relatives based on a morphological basis and where it fit on the grand scheme of classification.  The tree above represents the overall classification of the Purple Coneflower.    It is a member of the domain Eukarya, the phylum Plantae, and so on until the genus and species Echinacea purpurea.  The phylogenetic tree below represents the different species that belong to the family Asteraceae and the order Echinacea.  Most of the species are listed, giving a general sense to where Echinacea purpurea  is compared to its closest relatives.  To learn about another organism in the family Asteraceae, the sunflower, click here.
