Classification

classification of the Pacific tree frog

The name Pseudacris regilla comes from Greek and Latin.  In Greek, pseudes means “false” and akris means “locust”.  This is likely from the call of the Pacific tree frog which sounds a lot like the insect.  Regilla comes from Latin, meaning regal or splendid.  This probably comes from the pattern of the markings on the frog (Learn that Word 2013).
