The next level of classification is the phylum level, which is the last level
that the bald eagles share with humans.
The defining characteristics of a chordate is the presence of a notochord
during their development. Although this notochord is present in some chordates
even at the later stages of development, it is often replaced by the vertebral
column in more advanced vertebrates.
Other characteristics of a chordate are as follows:
- Bilaterally Symmetrical
- Presence of three germ layers (Ectoderm, Mesoderm, Endoderm)
- Complete Digestive System
- Presence of a posterior tail
- Closed Circulatory System
