Cymbopogon citratus is an incredibly interesting organism that has many valuable uses in our lives. Aside from being a delicious flavor in many of our dishes, a soother to our ailments, and a defense to fungi and bacteria lemongrass holds many other uses we encounter more often than we think.

  • Lemongrass is believed to be a detoxifier because of the Citral component in the oil. The Citral stimulates the kidney, liver, pancreas, and bladder so that the toxic waste can be eliminated through urine.
  • The removal of toxins through urination stimulated by the Citral cleanses the pancreases, liver, and kidneys , colon. and bladder aiding in restoring proper digestion.
  • Because of the control of cholesterol and fat, lemongrass aides in weight loss and prevention of cellulite formation and weightloss.
  • It is called "Sweet Rush" because of its believed ability it calm and comfort by relieving nervous tension and anxiety. It is often given to hypertensive patients.
  • It can be used to clear skin of acne and blemishes in certain people because of its removal of dirt from the skin.
  • The oils are  used for their scent in perfumes and aromatherapy products

  • Cymbopogon nardus, a relative of C. citratus is also used as an insect repellant in the but candle we light outside in the summer.
  • C. nardus has  been found to be lethal to bacteria and fungus as well.

I chose to create my website on lemongrass because, not only am I always open to utilizing our planets natural resources, but I also have a personal interest in this plant. I have always been a fan of lemongrass tea, and being allergic to mosquitoes, I am also a fan of the insect repellent aspect of it. I had a small amount of previous knowledge of this grass's uses and was very eager to learn and share more on why it is such an interesting plant!
