Contact Me

Hello, thank you for visiting my website. My name is Valerie Lind. I am a freshman this year at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse, hoping to pursue a career somewhere in the medical field. Where in the medical field I see myself is still a mystery. This website is an assignment for my Organismal Biology course taught by mycologist Dr. Thomas Volk and parasitologist Dr. Gregory Sandland. This year the theme for our class websites assignment was food. Each student in the class was assigned to pick one organism that is used as food somewhere in the world, research it, and create a unique website surrounding that topic. These sites are all compiled at Multiple Organisms.

I chose to do the harp seal not only because of its undeniable cuteness factor, but also because it is not something I would typically consider when I think of food. Being from the Midwest, I have never had the opportunity to sample this exotic cuisine. With the harp seal as my topic I have been given the opportunity not only to learn more about a new organism, but also about a new culture.

When I started this website, I did not know much about the harp seal. The only thing I knew about them was that they were hunted and often clubbed to death due to the advertisement done by PETA about the issue. This website can be helpful to those members of PETA who are looking to learn more about the organism whose rights they are fighting for.
