Red Tide

Kylie Reikowski

Hello and thank you for choosing to visit my website on Karenia brevis. My name is Kylie Reikowski and I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. I am majoring in Biology with a Biomedical Science concentration with a minor in chemistry. I am not quite sure what I would like to do after I graduate as I have thought about Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, along with several other things related to the health field. I am originally from Onalaska, Wisconsin, I graduated from Logan High School in 2011, and I absolutely love this area.

This website is the result of an assignment in my Organismal Biology course created by Dr. Thomas Volk and Dr. Gregory Sandland. I chose Karenia brevis as I had never heard of the organism until I received a list of venomous or poisonous organisms. After doing some research on this organism it fascinated me as it is a current problem in many of our coastal waters. Although I did not know much about it, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to learn about something new and interesting. Designing and researching this website was a bit of a challenge, but I hope that this website will allow people to learn more about this unique organism and enjoy it as much as I do.

Biology has always interested me because it is extremely applicable to life. You can walk outside, get up in the morning, eat dinner at night, sit in a classroom full of other eager students and some how biology is effecting you. Biology is one subject that affects you everyday, and to me, it is fascinating.

When I am not studying or going to school, I enjoy exercising, hanging out with my family and friends, reading, watching some of my favorite TV shows (Grey's Anatomy, Revenge, and Chicago Fire), among several other things. I am an animal lover, and I have three cats of my own.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me at reikowsk.kyli@uwlax.edu.
