About the Author

My name is Alicia Siebold and I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. This website was designed for my Organismal Biology class. I chose this organism, Atropa belladonna, because I found the plant very beautiful and learned that at the same time it is also poisonous. This organism reminded me of myself and other women in my family; beautiful to look at but also very dangerous at times. At the beginning of my Sophomore year in college I was double majoring in Biology and Pre-Veterinary Science and minoring in Chemistry. This class is a prerequisite for all upper level Biology classes. Unfortunately, I had a small change in heart and currently am an English major and Business minor. Even though this is the case I had to finish my second semester of my Sophomore year, which was dedicated to mostly science courses.

Some of my interests include volunteering, taking walks at the marsh in La Crosse and in downtown La Crosse, traveling and music. I am involved in two groups at the University of La Crosse; S.P.E.A.K (Students Protecting the Environment and Animal Kinships), and Volunteering Within. Volunteering Within provides many different volunteer opportunities both on campus and off campus. Some volunteer activities I have participated in are leading walks on a haunted trail for Halloween, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, helping with an indoor triathlon, and helping with a committee for the Teddy Bear Toss which took place at the University.

I also volunteer outside of this group at one of the local humane societies, The Coulee Region Human Society. At the humane society I give dogs the exercise and human contact that they need in order to be adopted. The S.P.E.A.K group I'm involved in does various activities to promote awareness of preserving the environment and advocating the humane treatment of all animals. My roommate and I will be co-presidents of this group next year and hope to do many activities to spread awareness of these issues.Traveling is something that I love to do as well. I do most of my traveling with my family, which includes my Dad, Todd, my Mom, Lisa, my Stepdad, Jim, and my sister, Jenna. Some places that I have traveled to are Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Las Vegas, Arizona, Alaska and my most recent trip was to Mexico. Traveling with my family is one of my favorite things to do and I believe these experiences really bring a family closer.

In High School I was heavily involved in band, I even have a tattoo on my foot dedicated to my love of music brought out by my participation in my High School band activities. I was also a Varsity member of the girls tennis team all four of my High School years. Being involved in these groups in High School allowed me to make many friends and many close relationships that I still cherish today. I am from a very small town called Kewaunee, Wisconsin, which is located directly on Lake Michigan. I love my town very much and even though UW La Crosse is a four hour drive away from my home I frequently make the trip to spend time with my friends and family.
