Interesting facts

The Cave Salamander can grow to be about 6 inches long on average.

Cave Salamanders start out yellow and as they age all but their ventral side turns bright orange with black spots. Males are usually smaller and have a small cloacal area. (NPWRC 2014)

They are able to fully stick out their tongue in about 5.5 milliseconds. (Fawley 2002)

Their average lifespan is 9.1 years (Fawley 2002)
