Habitat
Carychium are found near a wooded, damp lowland close to water that includes where there are moist areas available throughout the year beneath fallen twigs and bark, or under rocks (Schneider 1990). The distribution of Carychium exiguum (Say, 1822) is Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV and also parts of Canada (Perez 2008). Jeffery Nekola researched various snails and also found that Carychium exiguum (Say, 1822) was in a cluster that was found in forested areas over grasslands (Nekola 2003). In a different study Nekola also found that Carychium exiguum (Say, 1822) was the most abundant in his study of 10 geographic locations in North America (Nekola 2005). Hygrophilous was used to describe Carychium exiguum (Say, 1822) which means that they are adapted to grow in damp or wet environment (Miller 1970).
