Habitat

While most terrestrial snails prefer extremely moist environments, such as the underside of a log or rock in the forest, Helicodiscus singleyanus chooses to live in open, grassy places where the soil is mainly sand and silt.  It is particularly found along roadsides and railroads. 

The Smooth Coil is quite rare, and although it is found in other areas of North America, it is only found in a few Wisconsin counties.  To view a graph of Helicodiscus singleyanus occupied counties in Wisconsin, please visit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website
