Hendersonia occulta - BIO210
Adaptation
According to the Snail's Tales blog, Hendersonia occulta has adapted to living on land, since its original ancestors were marine snails. Interestingly, they are also the only snails within their subclass to have migrated and live in non-tropical areas. Due to its evolution, it only has one pair of tentacles on the head, and the eyes are located on the head instead of the tips of the tentacles, which is common for the terrestrial snails. (Örstan, 2006)
It also is one of the only terrestrial snail species that has a thinner operculum. Hendersonia occulta makes up for this by being able to withdraw into its shell further than most species.
