Habitat
Physella heterostropha is indigenous to North America in particular the Midwest United States. P. heterostropha are commonly in lakes, ponds, ditches and slow moving rivers and streams. Physids are found throughout the world and in particular P. heterostropha in North America. Due to their high capacity to thrive and adapt they live in most aquatic environments which allows for their omnipresence in North American waterways (Thorp 2011).
