This website is about Ichthyomyzon unicuspis more commonly known as the Silver Lamprey. Ichthyomyzon unicuspis is native to eastern North America, including the great lakes and parts of Canada(COSEWIC, Ichthyomyzon unicuspis).
Ichthyomyzon unicuspis is one of six species of lampreys contained within the genus Ichthyomyzon. They have eel like bodies and no jaw or paired fins. They also have a sucking mouth piece used by adult Silver Lampreys to latch on to fish and feed off of them parasitically(COSEWIC).
Ichthyomyzon unicuspis is often miss identified as Petromyzon marinus, an invasive species to the great lake area(The Native Silver Lamprey, COSEWIC).
