Facts

- Spawning months: March to May

- Size at sexual maturity: Females about 33mm, Males about 37mm

- Longevity: Up to 36 months

- Number of ova in mature females: 70-350

- Cycle of movement: Darters move downstream into pools during the winter months and migrate upstream to    spawn

- Majority of food content is from phylums Crustacea and Insecta.

- The conservation status of the mud darter is fairly good, but it is considered threatened in Wisconsin and Kentucky. (Miller, 1972).
