Polygyridae and Praticolella candida
Welcome
Welcome to our website about the not so well-known snail species Praticolella candida (P. candida) and the more expansive family Polygyridae. The species P. candida is a fairly recent discovered class of Gastropoda which has therefore, limited the amount of information available to use for research. Praticolella candida or White Shrub Snail was discovered in 1983 by Leslie Hubricht (Zipcode Zoo, 2013). That being said, much of the information presented in this website will cover more intrinsic detail about the family of P. candida, Polygyridae, from which the species is branched from.
The individual gastropods of the family Polygyridae are fairly large in terms of shell size. The size ranges from 5 millimeters to 40 millimeters. The shell is globose-depressed and all adult specimen possess a visible outer lip (Baker, 1939). The color of the Polygyridae may vary from a cream color to blackish or brownish, while the underside of the foot is usually a lighter color (Baker, 1939).
This website was created for researchers and the general public alike to gain more insight on the species Praticolella candida as well as the family Polygyridae. It contains many interesting facts on P. candida and Polygyridae, including its taxonomic classification, habitat, how it functions, and much more.
