Karner Blue

 

       The adult butterfly has a wing span of 2.5 cm, with females being slightly larger than males. Females' wings are dark gray-brown or black with violet on the central part of the wing.  Males' wings are significantly lighter and are violet-blue with black margins and white edges near the top. The underside of both males and female wings are gray with black, orange and metallic spots. The caterpillar is a solid pale green (Chan 2006).
