Habitat

Kronosaurus queenlandicus was clearly pelagic based on the variety of locations of fossils(Renneboog, 2011).  Pelagic means living in the open sea, however fossils can be found in inland portions of continents.  This is due to plate tectonics.  Throughout the millions of years that Kronosaurus thrived on earth new continents were formed and pulled apart.  This created many inland seas and changed the face of the earth and therefore changing the habitats of Kronosaurus.  Although Kronosaurus could be found everywhere in the ocean it is believed that they lived and hunted in more shallow regions close to sea like Killer Whales.  Shallow waters and coastlines are home to more abundant and suitable prey making Kronosaurus’ habitat requirements very similar to that of Killer Whales. (McHenry, 2009).  Like Killer Whales it is believed that Kronosaurus occupied all oceans, warm or cold.
