Polistes dominula BIO 203
Who are we?
Hello, my name is Tim Good and I am in my sophomore year at University Wisconsin-La Crosse. My current major here is Biomedical Science for pre-medicine with a minor in chemistry. I don’t anticipate this major being a part of my college career all that much longer, however. There has been a change of wind though, and as I’ll be switching to Community Health Education to better pursue my interest in Student Affairs to become a Wellness Coordinator for UW-La Crosse or a university of similar size.
My hometown is Janesville, WI which is a town of roughly 64,000 people. It is situated about forty five miles south of our state capital of Madison, WI. As a Wisconsinite, I am a huge fan of Wisconsin sports, and absolutely love the Packers and Badgers football teams. Beyond watching sports, I love to scuba dive all around the state and when the chance arises, the Caribbean too. Because of diving, I have taken up the unique hobby of underwater photography. I have taken lots of pictures throughout all the diving I have done, and my favorites came from my trip to Jamaica in the summer of 2011. Additionally, when I have time, one can find me playing drums, listening to all kinds of music, and simply just enjoying the company of many close friends.
I chose to research Polistes dominula for this website project because it is a fascinating organism that fits the requirement of being a eusocial insect. P. dominula is also a very invasive species that has quite a heavy presence within Wisconsin that after researching it, actually frequently is trying to build nests in my backyard. Also, when I was little I was stung by a paper wasp, and now that I reflect back on this research, the species of wasp that stung me was most likely P. dominula. For this website I wrote the Interactions and Habitat pages. Chris and I both worked together on the rest of the website to make it as informational and pleasing to the eye as possible. With that said, it was a lot of fun learning about such a common species that a ton of people have interactions with, but don’t even realize it.
Hey how’s it going! My name is Chris DeWinter and I’m a student here at the University of Wisconsin-La crosse. I am a Biology major with a minor in Chemistry. My goal is to go to medical school and become an E.R. doctor. I am creating this website for my Organismal Biology class and to learn more about the fascinating paper wasp Polistes dominula.
I am originally from Muskego Wisconsin a city of approximately 24,000 located is southeastern Wisconsin. When I am not busy studying here at the University I enjoy a variety of hobbies. I enjoy hunting, bow fishing, longboarding, target shooting and jetsking. Fall is my favorite time of year because all the hunting season open up and I get to participate in a sport I truly love. While on campus you will probably see me on my longboard going for a cruise or just riding to one of my many classes.
I hope that everyone who views this site enjoys
it as much as I did making it. The pages that I created are the
reproduction and for and function page. The rest of the pages
where put together in collaboration with my friend and partner Tim. The
European paper wasp Polistes dominula
is a fascinating creature. I never would have thought at the beginning
of this project that such a small organism could be so unique and
intricate. If you enjoyed this page you can also check out my other
webpage on the
