Habitat: "Where, oh where, could my little fungus be?"
If you are hoping to come across a specimen of Orange Peel Fungus, you should know that the range for this species includes most of North America. Specifically, Aleuria aurantia is often found on damp soil in wooded areas, near rotting trees and dead matter. This is attributable to the fact that it is a saprobic fungus, or a decomposer of organic material.
If you are particularly lucky, you might notice a bright-orange ascocarp, or fruiting body of the fungus, on lawns or clayey soil.
