Cyanidium caldarium is a microscopic red algae found in acidic hot streams, bogs, and moist acidic soils all over the world. Algaes like Cyanidium caldarium use photosynthesis to acquire their nutrients. However, unlike the typical green algae you will find floating in ponds, red algae contain the photosynthetic pigment, phycoerythrin, in addition to chlorophyll.  To learn more about how Cyanidium caldarium relates to other red algae, click here.
