Chicken of the Woods
Reproduction
Typically, four spores are produced on the end of each basidium, and each spore contains two haploid cells, made via meiotic reproduction. This is how the fungus reproduces. The spores drop from the underside and spread onto the substrate, where they fuse and form another organism.
Laetiporus sulphureus typically shows fruiting bodies in early autumn and spring, as it usually likes to come out after the rain. It is rare to find them fruiting in the summer, and definitely not in the winter, as the colder temperatures will not allow the organism's fruting bodies to survive.
