Chondrodendron tomentosum has definitely had to adapt to continue to survive in its habitat. Sunlight is limited near the floor of the rainforest due to the canopy created by taller trees. To overcome this problem, curare uses trees as a guide and support for the vine to grow up to reach the sunlight. The vine grows up into the canopy where there is more available light for photosynthesis. The plant also has a strong, woody base to keep the plant stable and rooted in the ground. The rainforest can be a difficult environment for plants to survive in due to the strong competition of trees and the curare takes advantage of the competitor to survive.
