Reproduction
Because Schizophyllum commune is a basidiomycete, it utilizes basidiospores to spread around in order to grow more fruiting bodies. Basidiospores are, for the most part, haploid. These basidiospores are formed on specialized parts called basidia via meiosis. Once they are ejected or fall off the fruting body, they can germinate to form hyphae. This ultimately creates a separate organism.
