Welcome!!

Swietenia mahagoni, commonly called West Indies Mahogany or small leaf mahogany, is a long-lived, beautiful tree, capable of  reaching great heights. It is usually planted as an ornamental tree in places such as Florida, the Florida Keys, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica and several other Caribbean islands, since it has become threatened by severe logging and deforestation.

This tree stands a lofty sixty feet, occasionally reaching monstrous size, exceeding one hundred feet in height. The foliage is a deep green, with flowers of a saffron color and fruit in oval form, the size of a turkey's egg. Unfortunately, however, the beauty of it's leaves nor the grandeur of its height are marveled at; it is the wood of the mahogany tree that is the most sought after timber in the lavish world of cabinetry, shipbuilding and musical instrument making. Check out the sustainability page to learn more about the common uses of mahogany wood.
