  •  Anglerfish can weigh up to 90 lbs (ARKive 2012).

 

  • L. piscatorius have a retractable jaw and no ribs which allow them to potentially eat prey larger than themselves (Rice 2010).

 

  • The meaning of the name anglerfish has to do with their method of prey capture dangling the fishing rod in front of their prey (ARKive 2012).

 

  • The female angler is much larger in size than a male (Doughton 2006).

 

  • Scientists wondered why they couldn’t find any male anglers until they discovered them as parasites attached to the females (Doughton 2006).

 

  • The anglerfish made an appearance in the well known kids movie "Finding Nemo".

 

  • The species can live to be more than 20 years old (ARKive 2012).
