the Leopard
panthera pardus
Nutrition
Leopards are carnivores that feed on a wide variety of
prey which are greatly dependent upon the habitat the
leopard lives in.
Leopards have been known to eat anything from fish, reptiles
and birds to larger mammals such as rabbits, warthogs, antelope,
wildebeest, impalas,
monkeys and
baboons. Leopards are strong, fast and
stealthy predators, but they are often subject to having their
kill stolen by other large cats such as lions. To avoid
this, leopards often carry their prey into trees where they can
eat it with little disturbance. Typically, leopards hunt every 5
to 6 days and will often times store numerous carcasses in a
single tree. Leopards are opportunistic hunters and will
often steal prey from other animals such as
tigers and eagles
given the opportunity.
