Inland Taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus)
Nutrition
As far as nutrition goes the Inland Taipan will eat anything it can wrap its mouth around. Mostly the Taipan will consume rats, mice, moles, shrews, and birds because they the most abundant source of food in central Australia.
A snake’s digestive system is quite
different from yours or mine. First off since
they swallow their prey whole they have evolved to have a very
stretchy stomach and the digestive juices also have to be very
strong to break down various components of other organisms like
claws, teeth, beaks, etc… You name it, a snake could probably
ingest it. Also while a snake is feeding it
still has to be able to breathe so it extends its trachea
outside of its mouth so that the victim is not blocking the
passage way.
