Cats are major predators of rodents and other small wild
animals. Outside domestic cats are capable of killing hundreds
of wild animals per year, but it's not typical. Small town
cats kill about 14 animals a year. Small mammals make up about
70% of the outside cats diet, whereas birds make up about 20%.

When feeding your cat, be sure to buy food which includes a high
protein and high fat diet. This includes fish, poultry, eggs,
meat, and vegetables. Also, despite the well-known need to give
cats milk, this is actually very bad for a grown cats. After a
cat turns eight weeks old, it becomes more difficult to digest
milk.
The domestic cat also needs to be given easily digestible food
because their small intestine is so short (see
adaptations.)
