About the Author

My name is Erik Christianson.  I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse majoring in Biochemistry and Biology with an emphasis in Cellular and Molecular Biology.  I am currently enrolled in Organismal Biology at UW-L and, as part of the course requirements, have created this page for Amanita muscaria.  This website, along with those of all my classmates, will be posted at Multiple Organisms with that hope that one day there will be a linked site for every known organism.

I choose A. muscaria because of its cultural influences, with theories ranging from Christmas, to berserker Vikings, to Siberian shaman.  I also took interest in how much A. muscaria has been brought into pop culture.  Most prominent of these appearances is in Nintendo's most successful franchise, Mario Brothers, where Mario consumes an
A. muscaria-like mushroom to become larger and more powerful.
