About the Author
Hello! My name is Jaklyn Kumm, and I am a Junior at the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse. In May 2010, I will graduate from this college with a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a Biomedical science concentration and a Chemistry minor. After graduation, I plan on attending graduate school and be coming a Physician Assistant.
I'm originally from Pittsville, WI--the exact geographical center of the state! In my spare time, I love hanging out with friends and family. I enjoy playing and watching all sorts of sports. I also love to cook, and Rachael Ray is one of my many idols (I practically have her entire kitchen collection).
In order to fulfill my graduation requirements, I took Organismal Biology- BIO 203. As a part of this class, I had to choose an organism and design a webpage about the organism. Since one of my biggest interests in life is the medical field, I knew I wanted to choose an organism associated with a disease. As a Certified Nursing Assistant at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, one of my duties is to report any stool irregularities to a nurse. Then, I obtain a stool sample from a patient in order for the stool to be analyzed for any problematic pathogens. One pathogen that is often tested for (at least when diarrhea is present) is Clostridium difficile. I knew C. difficile was known to cause diarrhea but that was all I really knew about the organism, so I decided to take this opportunity to become a semi-expert on C. difficile.
Thank you for visiting this website and I hope you were able to learn as much as I have about this organism!
