Treats and Eats 

Check out some recipes, both traditional (always classic guacamole) and a bit more unique (avocado pie). All packed with delicious and nutritious avocados, even if it doesn't look like it!

Guacomole

Ingredients:

2 avocados, pitted, peeled and mashed
1/4 teaspoon coarse garlic salt

Directions:

1. Stir together avocados and garlic salt until smooth. To keep from browning, leave the pit in the guacamole until ready to serve.

 

Deep Fried Avocado

Ingredients:

2 cups vegetable oil
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons herb seasoning blend
1 pinch ground cumin
1 avocado, peeled, pitted, sliced
1 egg, beaten

Directions:

1. Heat oil in deep fryer or skillet to 365 degrees
2. Mix together flour, seasoning blend, and cumin. Dip the avocado slices in the beaten egg followed by the flour mixture.
3. Fry the avocado slices for 3 to 5 minutes until golden brown
4. Drain on paper towel.

B.L.A.T.

Ingredients:

8 slices of bacon
4 slices of bread
4 tablespoons ranch-style salad dressing
1 avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced
1 tomato, chopped
1 cup shredded lettuce

Directions:

1. Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
2. Toast bread. Spread ranch dressing over the middle. Layer crumbled bacon, avocado, tomato, and lettuce.

 

Avocado Pie

Ingredients:

1 avocado, mashed
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
1 pie shell, baked

Directions:

1. Stir milk into mashed avocado.
2. Stir in lemon juice.
3. Pour into pie shell and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, serve with cool whip.
