Balaenoptera musculus, commonly known as the blue whale, is the largest animal in the world. Carl Linnaeus named the whale Balaenoptera(meaning "winged whale" in English) musculus("mouse" in English, muscle in French) in 1758. 
It is a natural phenomenon in its magnificent size, coverage in all of the planet's oceans, and the extraordinary adaptations of the mammal that lives exclusively in marine environments.
